Jellyfin • One-time fix
Make movies play in the browser
Some movies won't play in the web player. This puts back the missing piece. About 25 minutes.
Your graphics card has a little tool that converts a movie while it plays (for ones the browser can't read on its own). That tool is broken right now. Reinstalling the graphics card's software (its driver) puts the tool back — and the movies play.
⚠ Do this at the PC — daytime
The screen will go black and flicker, and any remote connection will drop while it runs. That's normal. Just sit at the computer and wait it out.
1
Pause anything that's playing. So nobody watching gets cut off.
2
Open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer — it's already there:NVIDIA-610.47-RTX5060Ti-CleanInstall.exe
3
Pick “Custom (Advanced)”, then check the box “Perform a clean install.” Click Next. That checkbox is the important part — it wipes the broken pieces. A normal install over the top usually won't fix it.
4
Wait. The screen flickers and goes black a few times.Totally normal — don't touch anything.
6
After it boots, open Command Prompt, type wsl --update and press Enter. Then fully quit and reopen Docker Desktop. This refreshes the layer Docker uses to reach the card.
✓ Then tell Claude
Say it's back up and I'll check Jellyfin and tell you straight if the converter is working. If it is, files like “Michael” will play right in the browser too.
